FETID "Steeping Corporeal Mass"

FETID

“Steeping Corporeal Mess”

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes “fetid” as meaning malodorous, stinking, noisome, putrid and rank. All of those terms can apply to Portland death metal band FETID in equal measure. And I mean that in the best possible way!

This is some of the most rotten and repellent death metal to surface in 2019. Everything about it is revolting, down to the subterranean bass tones, the heaving sludgy guitars and the sickeningly vomitous vocals. The five songs here are a celebration of raw pestilence and about as totally organic and undigital as you can get these days. Bands I would compare FETID to would be Denmark’s UNDERGANG and Japan’s COFFINS, with a liberal dose of AUTOPSY applied as well. Even INCANTATION hasn’t sounded a vile as these guys.

The pace is usually a heaving kind of doom that occasionally accelerates to a brutal raging racket. Nothing technical about it. There’s five tracks here and about a half hour of disgusting death in total. All are in the same vein, but last and lengthiest track “Draped In What Was” has a very cool synth intro right out of an 80’s horror movie that makes it a little different.

You have been warned! If you think you can take it, dive into the depths of that “Steeping Corporeal Mess"!
