“The Call of the Void”

I encounter a lot of bands like ANTICOSM these days. They are not bad but neither are they that good. The kind that create albums that fly in and out of your consciousness like buzzing mosquitoes. They have your attention for a moment, but only for a moment.

This is a well played and well produced album, whatever else may be said of it. The band performs a style that I would call a mixture of melodic death metal and melodic black metal. There’s energy here and some of the melodies are quite good. But they don’t break through that barrier where they become classic or especially memorable. I think it gets better as it goes along and that the shorter, punchier tunes like “Somewhere Between Life and Death” and “Never Enough” are the best. Those who like the harder edge of progressive metal may also find something to like here.

We live in an age where the onslaught of new music and bands is never ending. Surely modern bands realize this and know what they are up against. I think I can recommend ANTICOSM and “The Call of the Void”, but it’s a mild recommendation and not something that’s going to shatter your idea of music or what metal can do. Take what I’ve written above and formulate your own idea of what to do next.

  1. Thanks for the review! Its good to have constructive feedback to know how we can improve on being "not too good". We will try harder next time to be more memorable.
