HORRISONOUS "A Culinary Cacophony"
HORRISONOUS
“A Culinary Cacophony”
All you gore-mets into gastronomical grue are recommended to
check out these demented Aussies. The cover art will bring nostalgia to anybody
who likes Peter Jackson’s “Bad Taste” and the interior music matches it. This
is ugly and diseased death metal created to accompany a feast full of festering
innards, pus and rotting meat.
It’s not revolutionary but it hits just the right spots for
folks who like it filthy and raw. Members come from other underground Aussie
acts like Temple Nightside, Slow Death and Pestilential Shadows so they know
their stuff. The predominant sound here mixes doomy and cavernous riffs with
fast and nasty stuff. “Kuru Worship” is the fast and raw side of the band, but
“Perpetual Mincing” and “Nourishment Through Excrement” (destined to be a Taco
Bell theme song) are virtual death/doom and heavy as fuck.
It’s not complicated stuff, but some tracks like “A Tale of
Matriphagy” and “The Number of the Feast” are slyly constructed and more
complex than you would think. The latter track in particular has some
interesting lead guitar work. But the emphasis is always upon the sickest of
death metal and Horrisonous really hits the spot when it comes to that.
If you plan on serving up your relatives anytime soon, “A
Culinary Cacophony” would be a most fitting accompaniment.
