STEEL PROPHET "The God Machine"

STEEL PROPHET

“The God Machine”

One of the hidden treasures of the metal scene is a Greek singer named R. D. Liapakis. He has worked with many bands, but is primarily known for the grossly underrated MYSTIC PROPHECY. When I found out he was the lead singer on “The God Machine”, it caught my attention right away.

Chalk up another winner for Mr. Liapakis! Anybody who digs MYSTIC PROPHECY’s hard charging  and gutsy power metal in general should go ape over STEEL PROPHET and “The God Machine”. This is the kind of power metal I enjoy the most. No fruity keyboards or orchestration, just hard hitting metal riffs, soaring vocals and screaming leads! R.D. fits this band like a glove. You know right from the awesome title track and the equally killer “Crucify” that you’re in good hands! Much of STEEL PROPHET’s output is fast as a rattlesnake but not quite thrash...although the song “Thrashing Relentlessly” comes close, as you might expect. Liapakis’ singing has a smoky, husky tone that I love but his pronounciation is flawless. There’s also plenty of smoking axework from Jon Paget and Steve Kachinsky.

The band is wise enough to vary their sound. “Damnation Calling” has a lot of twin guitar melody and a more midpaced QUEENSRYCHE kind of sound, “Buried and Broken” is an appealing semi-ballad carried by R.D.’s great singing and final tune “Life = Love = God Machine” has a really cool rocking riff that is upbeat and different from the rest of the album.

This is a great TRUE power metal album that really delivers the goods. I recommend it!
