“Take The Stairs To Hell”

In the early 2000’s, the name CABLE got tossed around a lot when people spoke of American heavy music. Then they went silent and for all anybody knew, that was all she wrote for CABLE. Now they rear their ugly head in a significantly different and much more diffused musical era.

“Take The Stairs To Hell” is the first real listen I’ve given to the band. If you dig the Southern sludge metal sound of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, then these guys will be just the ticket. They sound a LOT like COC, only they inject a bit more of a hardcore feel into the music. One thing’s for sure, this album sure doesn’t outstay its welcome. It’s a very brisk 30 minutes or so filled with concise, to the point music. The Southern groove flavor is immediately apparent on “It Cost Me Everything” and so is the band’s gloomy outlook, very similar in tone to early CROWBAR.  There’s some real catchy and thick bodied riffs to be heard on “Low Man”,  “Rats On Fire” and “Eyes Rolled Back”. Nothing too earth shattering but enjoyable if you like an earthy tone to your heaviness. On “Black Medicine” they try for something a bit more complex but I’m not sure I like it as much. Last tune “Come Home” is a somber, mellow track that shows another side to CABLE but on such a short album, the time could have been put to better use.

That’s about all to say about “Take The Stairs To Hell”. A dedicated CABLE fan would be in a better position than me to say if this is the band at their best. If you need a shot of groovy Southern darkness, you could sure do worse.
