I’ve noticed that most American death metal bands look more like guys who just got off work at LubePro’s and are getting ready to head to the sports bar for the weekend. What happened to bands that really looked like they were demons from hell? South America remembers. Especially Chile, one of the most metal mad countries on Earth. There, death metal bands look like they’re ready to take Conan on. They look like SLAUGHTBATH!

And they ought to sound like SLAUGHTBATH, too. These spike-festooned warriors play that classic 90’s style of sinister ravaging death metal with touches of first-wave black metal that’s hard to find north of the Mexican border anymore. They do it with such ferocity and obvious dedication to tradition that you can overlook the fact it’s all been done before. Think of the likes of ANGELCORPSE, old MORBID ANGEL and the hoariest elder days of KREATOR and SODOM, mingled with the expected South American influences. This is NOT that stupid kind of war metal that just sounds like a vacuum cleaner running….the songs have potent riffs and time changes to get the head banging!

Top tracks to make you throw the horns are “Ritual Bloodbath”, “Cavern of Misanthropy”, and “Amulets of Carnage”. Yes, it does get a little exhausting by album’s end, but devilish intensity will do that. A diabolical gem of nostalgic evil extremity!
