“Iron Will Of Power”

URN is not quite the band you think they might be after hearing the first song here, “Downfall of Idols”. That track explodes with a furious blast of blackened death metal, fast and nasty in the vein of a MARDUK. The track is full blooded and aggressive, but nothing you haven’t heard before in that sub-genre.

That is NOT where the majority of songs on “Iron Will Of Power” are coming from. When we get to “Funeral Oath”, the tempo has slowed and the riffs are more “barbaric”...catchier and owing something to bands like OMEN and MANOWAR, but kicked up a notch. It sounds like the marching song of warriors headed out to lop off some orc heads. The style continues on “Prayers” and when the mighty riffs of “Demonlord” burst forth, there’s more than a touch of early thrash metal and even BLITZKRIEG style NWOBHM! This is some heady stuff to get the blood flowing hot.

On “Spears of Light” and “Will of Triumph”, they kick up the epic metal even more, with clean vocals and melodic choirs. It’s fair to say this is almost “death power metal” and while we need a new subgenre about as much as a new LIMP BIZKIT album, I can’t think of any other way to describe these songs. The roughness of death and black remains, but the core of URN’s music here is epic, chest-pounding warrior metal. And that’s what makes it a winner in my book. Prepare to march behind the banner of “Iron Will Of Power”…
