VAULTWRAITH

“Light The Candle In Honor of Devils”

Like a noxious fog billowing from a freshly opened crypt, VAULTWRAITH brings the scent of death and decay to the unwary. This horror metal outfit arises out of the same cabal that brought Razorback Records and similar bands such as WOODEN STAKE and SURGIKILL to life. So what you can expect here is the sonic equivalent of a Mario Bava film and a fun listen if you like a big dose of horror with your metal.

There’s a fair amount of variety in VAULTWRAITH’s attack, ranging from straightforward crunching brutality like “Four Beasts Before The Throne” and “All the Black Arts at Her Command” to more Gothic sounding epics that bear the touch of MERCYFUL FATE and CANDLEMASS, like  “Castle of the Accursed” and “Nachtober Necromancy”. These latter cuts have a lot of twin guitar harmony and classically tined soloing to them, along with bits of doom metal. The band is not afraid to add some unusual instrumentation to the standard metal thrust, like the intriguing sound of church bells heard during “Abbess Antichrist” or the keys and choral sounding voices that pop up throughout.

VAULTWRAITH is also distinguished by the bestial tones of Vanessa Alucarda, who is surely one of the high priestesses of feminine brutality. If you’ve heard WOODEN STAKE or any of the Razorback bands curated by her hubby Chilly Billy Nocera, you’ve heard her serpentine growls. Along with the rough and natural sounding guitar sound, she keeps the death metal content of VAULTWRAITH high.

I’m a real sucker for this kind of metal when it’s done with love, as this is. I see this is scheduled for release on Halloween and I can think of no better day to release this horror from the tomb.
