“Imminent Violent Death”

Dutch bands have always excelled at death and thrash metal. The bigger names like ASPHYX, PESTILENCE, GOD DETHRONED and SINISTER will usually rank high on lists of bands consistently putting out good material. ENTRAPMENT is one name that has kind of flown under the radar the last decade or so, but they also have that sturdy Dutch reliability when it comes to skull smashing heaviness.

Alas, I am told that this is the band’s final album. True to form, they go down swinging with 8 brutal tunes of no frills, gut-punching death metal. “Mortality Unleashed” is the perfect strike to get this sucker started...you can hear the echoes of Asphyx and Swedish death metal right away. That sound is the core of Entrapment, but by no means the only type of DM they purvey. “Incantations of the Grotesque” is short but spooky, starting with howling winds and church bells ringing before going into a kind of Middle Eastern riff and a doomy thump. No prisoners are taken for the remainder of the album and song titles such as “Sacrilegious Congregation”, “Morbid Habitation” and the ripper that gives this album its name show what you are in for: pure European death metal.

That’s what you could always count on from Entrapment. Real sorry it has to come to an end...buy this and give ‘em a send off in style.
