I couldn't keep track of all the "Goat" bands in heavy metal if I tried. Most usually wear gas masks and bulletbelts. So it is with Germany's GOATBLOOD. I understand this is not even the only band called GOATBLOOD...Beelzebub preserve us! Well, I don't know about the "other" GOATBLOOD but these guys have pretty much nailed the sound they were after...ultra-filthy, primitive black/death/war metal with no remorse and no dimmer switch.
A strong production and a laser like focus make this a lot better than it could have been. There's a great rancid guitar tone with tons of bassy bottom end, reminiscent of early INCANTATION. The music itself is at all times extreme and filthy, but there is some small attempt to mix things up. It's not "vacuum cleaner" war metal where every tune is at the same pace, even though quite a few tracks here do have the chaotic blast of IMPIETY-style war metal. Mixed with that is some slower ARCHGOAT/INCANTATION style doomy filthy and even a couple bursts of punky groove. "Beach of the Dead", the groovy "Miss Dead Body" and "Predators of the Horn" have the more sludgy, riffy approach while "Chanfukka", "Exclusion Prevails" and "Pork Puzzle" are more of the total blast variety. Some cuts like "Goat Order" and "Ram of Nazareth" throw a little bit of everything into the mix.
Is this NSBM? I don't know, but a couple of sound bites and song titles like "Deportation Isle" and "Pork Puzzle" seem to lean that way. You can't really pick anything up from the vocals, which are incomprehensible growls, so I will withhold judgment on that. I wouldn't expect a "Goat" band to be anything but tasteless, but pure Nazi stuff I just can't go for.
At any rate, GOATBLOOD do goat metal the right way and chances are if you pick up anything by a band named GOATBLOOD, you'll be happy with what you get here.
