 “Part of A Sick World”

The name SURGICAL STRIKE makes one think of something clinical and precise and in fact, that’s exactly what you get from this German thrash machine. These guys are locked into a style of technical and clockwork precise thrash in the vein of ANNIHILATOR, EXODUS and early TESTAMENT and they nail it like a smart bomb blowing an ISIS camp to shreds.

Granted, this is not something you’re gonna seek out if you’re looking for innovation, but if you like Bay Area style riffing, you get it here.  First song “Dead End Gone” didn’t really hit the mark and it is clearly not the best here, but by the time we get to “Politicians”, SURGICAL STRIKE is clicking on all cylinders. This is more bitter and political than the SACRED REICH comeback “Awakening” and I’d say it’s the better album if you’re into crisp, clean thrash. They just keep it coming and don’t bother with intros, interludes or funny business. “Lambs to the Slaughter” and “Sorrow of War” are two more outstanding tracks here.

It does get a bit samey by the end, but that’s true of virtually all thrash. There hasn’t been a lot of really good Bay Area influenced stuff lately...most thrash tends to be more of the raw evil kind or “party thrash”...so this is a pretty welcome kick in the pants.
